Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Tuesday urged the Government to take urgent measures after a cement slab collapsed at the Electricity Department office in Mapusa, warning that the deteriorating structure poses a serious threat to the safety of staff working in the building.

Alemao stated that the building continues to weaken each day, forcing employees to work under constant fear that the remaining slab may also collapse. He stressed that the situation is extremely dangerous and requires immediate intervention from the Government to prevent any untoward incident.

He further suggested that staff should be temporarily shifted to an alternative location until the premises are repaired and officially declared safe, ensuring that work continues without putting employees’ lives at risk.

Raising broader concerns, Alemao also called for a comprehensive structural audit of all government buildings across the state. According to him, even several schools in Goa have not undergone proper structural inspections. In some cases, school buildings were declared unsafe only after inspections were eventually conducted, highlighting serious gaps in the Government’s approach to public safety.
