PANAJI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall across North and South Goa over the next seven days, with heavy rainfall likely at a few places in the ghat and eastern regions of the state on Friday (July 17).

According to the weather bulletin issued by the IMD’s Meteorological Centre in Goa at 1:00 PM, moderate rainfall is expected to continue across the state until July 23. While no weather warnings have been issued after Friday, residents in the eastern belt and ghat regions have been advised to remain cautious due to the possibility of heavy showers.

The IMD has also issued a marine advisory for fishermen operating in the Arabian Sea. Squally winds with speeds of 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected over parts of the west-central and adjoining Arabian Sea. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the affected offshore areas during the warning period.

The department cautioned that intense rainfall may lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, localized flooding, landslides, falling trees and temporary disruptions to electricity and essential services. People living in vulnerable and low-lying areas have been advised to stay alert and follow official weather advisories.
